Data Meeting #5 Reflection

I felt that this data meeting was the most effective meeting so far that I had. Although this was the first time for me and my partner to collaborate together, we both were able to work efficiently either through telecommunication tools or presenting each data implementation result, explaining the background of the data to each other, and providing feedbacks as well.

The most enjoyable process during this meeting was sharing the experience of how to implement the action plan, what would be done or what had been done. What had worked or not after the implementation?

Below is the list for what has been identified as positive feedbacks for implementation:

  • Spiral in and model basic algebraic solving skills during daily warm up session.

  • Emphasize geometric terms using: fill in blanks with given “word bank”; play matching games through “Quizlet”, etc.

  • Use online interactive tools to deepen students understanding of new concepts. For example: demonstration of conics made by locus points that follow certain rules.

  • Assign pair-up project from each unit as a type of formative assessment. Such as designing a swimming pool using more than two 3D figures by maximizing volume and minimizing the cost.

  • Exit-check after each SLT has been taught as a reflection of teaching and learning.

We also examined my data implementation result (RQA3) based on the grading rubric and referred it to the SMART goal identified from prior meetings. We were glad to see the goal had been met. The question is "What's the next step after the goal is met?" We decided to use this question as the guide for our further growth area. That is how to use backward or forward looking data to formulate other areas’ exploratory questions in a second or third cycle (Venables, 2014).
