There are some significant differences between the Google classroom and the older Edmodo software. Edmodo offers a direct connection to CCS in the form of the Snapshot feature while the Google classroom does not have this component as part of its program. Snapshot feature allows teachers to assess their students with a standards aligned formative assessment that is generated automatically ("Edmodo," 2015). For example, under the Edmodo Snapshot page, I want to create a Geometry assessment aligned with CCS for the unit five-Circle, I can choose the “Grade” (9-10) first, followed by “Subject” (Geometry), then click on one or more standards that align with the content (G.C.1-Prove that all circles are congruent). I have to make sure to give a name for the assessment (Circle Assessment #1) and set up the time limit and due date for this assessment before I click the “Assign now”. Snapshot is a not only help teacher to generate a formative assessment aligned with CCS in a minute, but also provide immediate feedback to the teacher about what do students know or not know based on the CCS, so that the teacher will adjust his/her lesson accordingly in a timely manner.
